Thursday the 24th June assumed a significance greater than expected.

It was the last normal lunchtime with the 1998/99 President Fred Beaumont in the driving seat and he was able to announce that the Sponsored walk had raised £3500.00 which was to be shared between the Hope and Homes for Children and the Rotary Intermediate Technology charities.

It was also the occasion of the long anticipated and traditional address by our sitting Member of Parliament Paul Truswell.

Besides entertaining a large audience of Rotarians and friends with his witty experiences of life in Westminster and as a constituency M.P., Paul also made presentations on behalf of the club.

Charles Clough accepted a cheque on behalf of Hope and Homes and David Sutcliffe received a bottle of Champagne, donated by the President to the Rotarian who brought in the most sponsor money for the walk.

Thursday 1st July was handover day with President Fred Beaumont passing on the chain of office to Robert V. Key for next twelve months.
President Elect is Keith Thompson and Vice President is Ian Featherstone.
