As custom dictates, President Fred Beaumont's handover address to the
members on Thursday 1st July 1999, looked back on the year, one of
activity and achievement. Several members were singled out with a
special mention for their outstanding contribution, paricularly for
their involvement with the record breaking fund raising Sponsored Walk.
Before handing over the reins, and the chain of office, President Fred
had this to say about his successor....
"Robert Key and I joined the Pudsey Club on the 17th May 1990 and we quickly
formed a bond and working relationship which has lasted and prospered.
I have to confess that I have a weakness for people who are doers and are enthusiastic and
volunteer easily. When I had the opportunity to have a say in who would follow me, he was
the natural choice.
Robert was a great help when I organised the first Quiz Night eight
years ago. After four years, when I thought it had run its course,
Robert took it over and it still retains its appeal for members and
their friends.
Not only is Robert active in the club, he is well known in the community, for his job
brings him into contact with a lot of people - and he also works hard on various
committees.
We have had a good working relationship during my year in office and I have found him to
be all I expected - open, warm and friendly and a good man to have by your side.
We have had some good nights out visiting other clubs and interesting times at district
meetings and a lot of fun.
I am indebted to him for his support and I recommend him to you as
worthy of your support. I wish President Robert and his team well in his year of
office".
