Riding for the Disabled |
22 July 1999

|
Local riding school and equestrian centre, Wadlands
at Calverley, have a strong committment to giving horsey experience to disabled
youngsters. Hearing that they were short of helpers, our Community Service committee
rounded up some of the retired members to help fill the gap.

Peter Malby and Fred Beaumont were amongst the
first to volunteer and helped the ladies with two partially sighted boys, leading the
horses round the indoor riding school. |
|
Peter said "I was O.K. until we had to lead
the horse in a trot - I was going flat out and trying to keep my feet away from the
hooves". Fred said he was built more for a Shetland pony and took away several
bootfuls of horse muck.
