MACMILLAN
CANCER RELIEF
In 1998 The City of Leeds Macmillan Appeal was set up to raise the £1.5 million necessary
to help establish a Cancer Resource and Information Centre and five additional Macmillan
Nurse posts in the local community.
Thanks to a tremendous response from local people the amount raised now stands at a
magnificent £1.2 million and the additional nurses are now in post and building of the
Cancer Resource and Information Centre is well under way and likely to be completed by
December this year.
The remaining £300,000 needed to be raised quickly to enable the Centre to open for
patients in the new year.

The Rotary Club of Pudsey,
through its Community Service Committee, responded to this years initiative and took part
in THE WORLDS BIGGEST COFFEE MORNING which was happening all over the
U.K on the 1st of October.

|
Thanks to local
travel agent Hanson Travel World Choice, we obtained the Wallace Arnold Courtesy Bus which
was prominently sited in the market place in Pudsey and open for free coffee (plus a
donation to the fund and signature to the record attempt).

 A
record number of Pudsey Rotarians turned up, despite the lashing rain, to support
Committee Chairman Chris Johnson-Green in his latest project.
White shirts and bow ties, leaflets in the streets, coffee and comfort in the bus were all
part of the hectic few hours, which included an early power failure and an ill informed
traffic warden who tried to move us on! |
|
Local Member of Parliament Paul
Truswell popped in to see how we were going on, stayed for coffee and a chat to his
constituents, before departing to other venues involved in the record attempt.

Our effort raised £115.00. We will add information about the
Leeds appeal and the national record attempt when final results are to hand. ..... Watch
