Rotary Club of Pudsey news and whats going on

The Handover
5th July 2001

This is the day we officially install our new President, an event saddened by the news that incoming President Elect Rod Keighley was not well enough to be with us. We wish him a quick turnaround to his usual ebullient self. Chris Johnson-Green accepted the President Elect chain of office on his behalf, as well as being inducted as Vice President himself.

Keith Thompson, now our immediate Past President, opened the proceedings mentioning many of the highlights and special anniversaries of the last twelve months. As one of our most talented writers and humorists, Keith never disappoints his audience and their appreciation was evident again today.

Ian Featherstone, hailed by his predecessor as the youngest President this century, gave a calm, thoughtful, forward looking speech which left his listeners in no doubt of the problems we would be facing if the issue of membership recruitment and retention were not tackled with the greatest urgency. Amongst other problems would be the question of succession to the senior positions of the Presidency. Would we be faced with the possibility of a second term for previous incumbents? Ian’s year of office coincides with the 50th anniversary of the charter of the Pudsey club and plans are afoot to mark the occasion.
