Les's Walk free of Foot and Mouth
16th Sept 2001

Sunday morning turned out to be one of those longed for late summers day, a crisp and encouraging start, getting warmer and brighter as the day progressed.

Just the conditions to stimulate the band of 44 Rotarians and their friends who gathered at the Robin Hood Inn at Pecket Well on the A6033 Oxenhope to Hebden Bridge for coffee and last minute advice from walk organiser Chris Johnson-Green.

The walk which took about 5 hours and was in the Crimsdown Dean area near the famous Hardcastle Crags, was sufficiently challenging for the occasional walker to give a lot of pleasure and a good sense of achievement. .

Now in its 21st year, this traditional Sunday walk, eighteen years with Les Bloom at the helm and the last three masterminded and led by Chris, had been delayed this year because of the foot and mouth restrictions.

Back in Pudsey, the evening meal at the Tudor Restaurant was enjoyed by a similar number to those who went on the walk thus rounding off a fantastic day.
