... Rotary the World Over

Rotary Club of Pudsey news and whats going on

Braving the forecast at Pudsey Carnival
25th May 2002

Pudsey folk have a habit of not believing 'owt until it's there and happening (and not always then), so it's a good job that the weather forecasters predictions of high winds and torrential downpours, didn't dampen our spirits.

Our District PRO chap had said "There's no better way of promoting Rotary than seeing enthusiastic Rotarians in action". so we chose the annual Pudsey Carnival to raise the profile of Rotary with the general public.

The focus of our effort was the Aquabox demonstration unit, backed up by some sophisticated graphics and it certainly attracted the attention of the public.

The leaflet we produced telling the "Aquabox story" and listing the welfare items we pack into the boxes, was the hook which brought many a passers-by to the working model.
Our well informed teams quickly established a rapport and we have lots of promises of support for the 'welfare items' and several groups who will consider sponsoring the purchase of Aquaboxes.
"Well known" visitors to our demonstration included the Lord Mayor of Leeds Councillor Bryan North and our local Member of Parliament, Paul Truswell MP.

Despite a sudden downpour whilst we were setting up our display at about I I a.m. the afternoon turned out hot and breezy, there were as many interested people as we could handle and we packed up at 4p.m., tired but satisfied with our effort.
