Rotarians on a high at blood pressure day

Two of the enthusiastic helpers pose with our display board, Stanley Lythe sporting the new embroidered club jumper and David Sutcliffe with the familiar tabard.

David said "We had no difficulty persuading shoppers to take the leaflets or have their blood pressure measured, the skill lay in keeping the queue to a respectable size".

Pudsey Rotary club played their part in a national Stroke Awareness Day at the Owlcotes Centre on Saturday 5th April. Our task was to encourage shoppers to stop shopping to have their blood pressure taken by local medical staff who were on hand throughout the day. Over 200 people were tested and 10 of those were advised to see their own G.P. as their pressure was dangerously high. High blood pressure is one of the indicators of an impending stroke. Chris Johnson-Green, President of the club, said "this has been one of the most worthwhile community activities we have been involved in this year. It would be nice to think that we have been instrumental in saving someone from a life threatening stroke by persuading people to have their blood pressure checked".

Qualified medical personnel were on hand throughout the day giving their time, knowledge and skill.

Dianne Charnley, Alison Keeling, Claire Waite and Mary Johnson-Green covered the other four hours.
